What we do...

Surgical ConsultationsWhen the need arises, your primary physician may ask for a surgical consultation. This consultation with the surgeon may happen when you are an in-patient in the Windham Community Memorial hospital or it may happen when you are an outpatient. The surgeon, whether it is Dr. Ridyard, Dr. Kloss or Dr. Kolodziejczak, will see you, discuss with you the surgical issue your primary physician has raised, and then examine you. Following review of any pertinent labs or X-rays the surgeon will discuss with you the next plan of action.A surgical consultation may be required for a suspicious mammogram finding; perhaps a nodule or mass on CAT scan of the chest or abdomen. Bleeding in the stool or anemia (a low blood count) may require colonoscopy. Occasionally a employment physical exam may find a lump in the groin and the question needs to be answered: "is this a hernia?". Another reason for a consultation might be a previous biopsy done by another physician which has demonstrated cancer; the question asked of the surgeon would be "is surgery required?". Sometimes, the plan of action is simple: a biopsy of a small skin lesion or lancing of a skin abscess or perhaps ordering a follow up X-ray or mammogram. On another occasion the surgical consultation may indicate a need for major surgery.
All three of the surgeons in Windham Surgical Group are fully board certified and are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Kolodziejczak is specialty trained in surgical oncology. Each of our surgeons will take the time necessary to discuss with you the issue raised by your medical doctor. A kind, gentle bedside manner is one of our hallmarks. The notion of an arrogant surgeon rushing you off to surgery without answering your questions in NOT the case here! We will answer your questions, review the lab data with you if you like and then decide on surgery. |
